Spotware Launches cTrader CLI for AI Trading Automation
Spotware introduced cTrader CLI, a command-line tool for AI-driven trading and cBots, enabling automation without a graphical interface. It supports multiple accounts and local or cloud deployment, with optional integration for AI assistants.
Spotware has released cTrader CLI, a command-line interface that allows traders and AI applications to interact with the cTrader platform programmatically. The tool, announced on Thursday, connects to trading accounts, executes cBots, runs backtests, and retrieves market data without requiring the traditional graphical user interface. According to Spotware, the CLI is designed to let algorithmic traders move recurring tasks to locally controlled Windows or Linux environments, with support for running multiple bot instances in the background.
A notable feature is the integration with third-party AI applications such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, and Gemini CLI. These tools can convert natural-language instructions into cTrader commands, potentially simplifying strategy development and execution. However, Spotware emphasizes that the AI layer is optional; users can call commands directly via scripts or custom programs. The CLI supports authentication via a cTID password file and can be deployed via a Docker image, giving users access to cloud infrastructure.
From a watchdog perspective, this launch expands automation options for retail forex and CFD traders, but it also underscores the need for caution. While AI-assisted trading may streamline workflows, it does not eliminate market risks. Traders using such tools should thoroughly test strategies and understand the technical setup, especially when deploying on external servers. The CLI's ability to run bots independently of the desktop application means strategies can continue executing even if the interface is closed, which adds convenience but also requires robust monitoring.
Spotware's move follows its earlier release of cTrader AI Agent Connect in May and aligns with industry trends toward AI-driven trading tools. Competitors like MetaTrader 5 and ThinkTrader have also introduced similar AI integrations. For retail traders, the proliferation of such tools increases access to advanced automation, but the responsibility for risk management remains with the user. Always verify the safety of API keys and credentials when using third-party AI services or deploying on cloud hosts.
