Interactive Brokers Adds SafetyPay for Latin America Funding
Interactive Brokers has partnered with Paysafe's SafetyPay to offer a new local bank transfer funding option for clients in Latin America. This move aims to simplify account funding and reduce delays, following broader industry expansion in the region.
Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has introduced a new account funding option for clients in Latin America through a collaboration with Paysafe's SafetyPay. The integration allows eligible clients to transfer funds directly from their personal bank accounts using local currencies, expanding the range of funding methods available to the broker's Latin American clientele.
Once funded, clients can access a wide range of products including stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds across more than 170 global markets. Milan Galik, CEO of Interactive Brokers, emphasized the company's commitment to simplifying the funding process: "Funding an account should be straightforward," he said. He added that SafetyPay provides clients "a simple way to transfer funds from their local bank accounts" and access the markets available through the broker.
This move is part of a broader trend among international brokers to strengthen their presence in Latin America by adopting local payment infrastructure. Earlier, Interactive Brokers expanded its partnership with Paysafe to offer additional payment options across eight Latin American countries, including locally preferred payment methods and bank transfers. In 2021, the broker also introduced a Request for Payment service in the U.S. to reduce funding delays, allowing investors to fund their accounts around the clock.
For retail forex and CFD traders in Latin America, this development is a positive step toward reducing friction in account funding. Traditionally, cross-border transfers have been slow and costly, often involving significant currency conversion fees. Local payment options like SafetyPay can mitigate these challenges, enabling traders to fund their accounts more efficiently and focus on trading rather than logistical hurdles.
However, while convenient, traders should remain aware of the specific terms and conditions associated with each funding method, including any fees or processing times. As the industry sees more brokers adopting local payment solutions, competition may lead to further improvements in cost and speed, benefiting the end user.
This expansion also reflects a larger industry movement, with brokers like CFI and XTB recently securing licenses in Brazil, signaling increasing competition for Latin American clients. For now, Interactive Brokers' addition of SafetyPay is a practical improvement that aligns with its global strategy to provide accessible and efficient trading infrastructure.
